BOAT INFORMATION
1974 Cavalier 32 - Mehitabel
Well maintained and seaworthy Cav 32. She was custom built for the 1974 Sydney to Hobart (the last photo is from the 1974 Sydney to Hobart official program showing her as a brand-new yacht in the Cavalier Yachts ad). Cav 32's are built bullet proof and sail well. A new Yanmar 3YM20 diesel was fitted in 2009 and gives trouble free, reliable motoring. Coupled with a folding bronze 2 blade prop, which gives drag free sailing. Over $12000 has been spent in the last 12 months, including all new Standing rigging and mast/boom refurbishment by QuinRig (rigging certificate available), deck gear, steering and rudder post maintenance, chain plates, electrics, SS solar panel arch and solar panels, recent haul out, sanded, antifouled with 3 coats of Interlux Ultra 2 & new cutlass bearing & thru-hull/seacock replacement for the raw water intake, plus more much -
*New AGM batteries and renewed wiring, new battery switch and smart shunt for the new Victron BMV 712 smart battery monitor, new Enerdrive dc to dc battery charger and MPPT solar regulator.
*New stainless solar panel arch with 2 new 160w solar panels giving a combined 320w output. New compass (not installed, still in box).
*New handcrafted tiller imported from USA, New overbuilt tiller head engineered by Aqua Tech Engineering.
*The mast was stepped and completely refurbished (including the boom), with new wiring and LED steaming and anchor light. Most importantly, the entire standing rigging was replaced (including turnbuckles) and chainplates, masthead halyard sheeves, shroud tangs & masthead spinnaker crane, at a cost of over $6000 by Quin Rig (rigging certificate included) here on the Sunshine Coast - you now have peace of mind for the mast & standing rigging for 10 plus years!
*New RG213 coaxial cable was run down the mast from the new masthead whip antenna, giving amazing VHF range of 100km. I also replaced most of the running rigging, reorganised blocks, and replaced or repaired worn hardware and serviced the Seafurl headsail furler with new ball bearings in the halyard swivel.
*All fixed portlights were replaced and resealed and there is a new, large foredeck hatch.
The mainsail and Genoa are in good condition and still crisp with plenty of life. There is an assortment of extra sails, including spinakker. The interior sleeps 4 with two wide quarter berths and a rebuilt, wider & more comfortable port settee berth. The forepeak could easily be converted into a Vee berth, if required.
There is a 2 burner metho stove and the original icebox. There are not many electronics other than VHF, depth, and speed (Raymarine Tridata ST60+). Raymarine wind instrument not connected. The head is a modern Jabsco manual in good working order. She has a 2-blade folding prop for less drag when sailing but gives plenty of torque and thrust in both, ahead & astern propulsion.
This is a solid, well-built vessel that can sail anywhere. The previous owner had her for 15 years and she was hauled and professionally maintained constantly during his ownership, and I have just done all of the above work in the last 12 months. She is QLD registered until 8/4/2023. This Cav 32 is a solid, clean, original boat that hasn't been messed with - she has a simple & comfortable layout. What you see is what you get with no hidden surprises. Everything is accessible and in plain sight. The owner is a professional sailor and yachtmaster instructor who has cruised & raced all over the planet and is happy to assist and advise the buyer.
